Fog lights. Selection without errors
In foggy weather, when visibility is reduced to 3-4 meters, the bright glow of high and low beam headlights is virtually useless. Exit from a similar situation to help fog lights with a weaker light. Their advantage is the surface and the lumen of the beam, which literally pierces the density of the fog. Due to the anti-fog effect that appears on the line of light and shadow, the visibility will increase significantly.
The basis of proper selection of fog lights are three factors: their color, certain marking, as well as impeccable structure. Buying these lights, be sure to check out the technical specifications. The model of fog lights does not play a significant role, since it is not the head daytime running lights that carry the main role.
Pay more attention to the color of the headlights. It is better if they are bright yellow or milky white. As a rule, the blue part of the spectrum is perfectly scattered in water droplets. In this regard, it is able to be cut only by glasses of a certain color (specified above). It should be noted that fog lamps, having a greenish, red or blue color, solve this problem quite badly and from the position of functionality fade into the background.
I must say that the color is not an exclusive attribute purchased headlights. Marking of headlights will also help to make the correct selection. If they are tested for suitability and certified, then on their surface you will see a two-digit code of the country where these tests were carried out. In addition, there will still be a Latin letter “E”.
In particular, marking with the value “02” indicates that the fog lamps comply with the final assembly of the international guidelines. Pay attention to the fact of the presence of the letter “B”. It should be mandatory. The presence of this letter indicates that it is these lights and are fog. Other values instead of the letter “B” correspond to other types of headlights. We recommend to pay attention also to the fact, what lamps are equipped with headlights. Apart from the quality certificate, it is necessary to make sure that the power of such lamps does not exceed 50-60 watts. Such lamps are equipped with one thread and are marked on the base H-1 or H-3.
There is a basic rule for the functional application of fog lamps, namely: they must be placed below the boundary of the main headlights, since the cut-off line must pass at the height of the driver’s eyes. It should not be higher, nor lower. In this regard, it is impractical to install fog lights on the roof of the car.
